The Mary and Martha Mail Circle
Martha was so busy working that she didn't have time to sit at Jesus' feet as Mary did and she complained to Mary. Mary saw the value in spending time worshiping the Master as she spent time just sitting and listening.
In the Mail Circle we see ourselves as Marys or Marthas and sometimes have part of each in us. Some of us find meetings a bore and had rather be doing, some of us would love to be in meeting but need to spend time with children, parents or spouses at the present stage of our lives. Each of us seeks time to spend in quiet communion with Jesus sitting at His feet. Through the Mail Circle we welcome others to sit with us in this sisterhood and be of service be we Marys or Marthas.
The "sisters sent unto Him, saying, Lord, behold, whom thou lovest is sick."
We often send mail requesting our Mail Circle sisters to join us in prayer, for illness in our families, sickness of the world, or otherwise seeking Jesus' continuing intervention in our lives and circumstances, thus we have a scripture for the Mary & Martha Mail Circle, John 11:3.
Responsibilities include the following:
Making the Purpose of United Methodist Women your own:
United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
You will be invited to make a Pledge to Mission, a contribution to Call to Prayer and Self-Denial, and the World Thank Offering.
To remain a member of the Mail Circle, you must make a contribution each year. This need not be money, but might be items for the annual UMW Bake or Soup Sale, contribution to a service project, or other.
You will be invited to attend the General Meetings of United Methodist Women at Christ United Methodist Church. The Mail Circle has responsibility at each of the General Meetings.
You will be invited to attend district and conference meetings. District UMW meetings are held within the Mobile area and most Alabama West Florida Conference UMW meetings are at Blue Lake.
Although the Mail Circle will not hold monthly meetings, the group will maintain at least monthly contact with one another via email or when this is not available through telephone and/or regular mailings. Membership will be solicited from those who would like to be a part of UMW but cannot attend meetings. On at least one occasion during the year the group will gather in a social/business setting.
