I once knew a man who said he had all the friends he needed. This came as his wife and I were preparing to invite a new couple in town to a covered dish dinner party. I've often thought of his remark and particularly this month as our virtual meeting for August is all about membership and friendship. I need all the friends I can get; I need the librarian who messages me weekly to comment on our prayer focus, I need the CUMW president who proofreads and allows me to correct errors, I need Facebook friends who like and sometime love my posts and I need each member of the Mail Circle to be my friend. I need Norma who allows me to help her as I'm doing for this week's prayer focus. There are not many opportunities for me to help friends but I hope you, as Norma, will allow me the opportunity to help you as I'm able. Friends give us opportunity to serve as we best can.
Lord, grant that we will be good helpers to our friends and may we always welcome new friends.
Vera Moore filling in for Norma this week.
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
